| malam sarirasya ca vaidyakena | who gave yoga for serenity and sanctity of mind, |
| yopakarottam pravaram muninam | grammar for clarity and purity of speech and |
| patanjalim pranajaliranato'smi | medicine for perfection of health. |
| abahu purusakaram | Let us prostrate before Patanjali, an incarnation of Adisesa |
| sankha cakrasi dharinam | whose upper body has a human form |
| sahasra sirasam svetam | whose arms hold a conch and a disc, and |
| pranamami patanjalim | who is crowned by a thousand-headed cobra. |
